Shelley's Story
I was IMPATIENT as hell the day that saved my life because they were running behind and I didn’t want to wait for my mammogram, but something told me to stay. After my routine mammogram, the tech came out to the room I was waiting in and said, “the doc wants another view”.
“OK”, I said. They did the other view and I waited again. The tech came back again and said, “the radiologist wants to see you”. I knew…… He said, “we need a BIOPSY”. (at least that is how loud I heard it). Everyone during my biopsy was amazing! I was home alone when I got the “you have breast cancer” call. That’s all you know at first. No idea what is going to happen next. Trying to decide who to tell first and how you are going to tell them, all while going into some sort of terrified survival mode.
That was November of 2019 at age 45. I was diagnosed with stage 1 grade 3 (aggressive) hormone positive breast cancer. I went through a double mastectomy and then later found out I needed chemo. I was touched when a friend gave me a care package that helped me deal with what I was going through. I have since made it my mission to do the same for others in the form of a cancer care bag. Each bag is personalized to that person’s likes and treatment plan.
I started by doing this for friends and family, funding it myself but the requests kept coming, so to keep up with demand, I started Cancer Care Bags by Shelley, Inc.
Wow! I am unbelievably grateful for this thoughtful care bag. To say that this came at an ideal time would be an understatement. I needed this smile today more than ever.
